Note to all Matrox Users:   Lasagna BGA Cooler Type B is a new design with retention push pins is now most suitable for G200 and G400 applications.

Special note: For strong adhesive bond strength, use more aggressive solvents
as mentioned below to remove the residual compound left on the chipset. 9/22/98

To install Lasagna Cooler on G200 Chipsets

1.  use a small flat-end tool to push the plastic pins out

2. Twist the heatsink to remove it off the chipset.  
    Warm (run the card for a while) the chipset will make it much easier to remove.

3.  Clean (by rubbing) the chipset surface with strong solvent.
    Note: automotive carburetor cleaner (key ingredients should have Toluene, MEK, Xylene)
              is the best solvent to clean the compound left on the G200 chip.
              Wet a piece of cloth with the cleaner and rub hard on the chipset surface
              to remove the compound completely.
    Caution: carburetor cleaner is flammable.  Dry up the solvent before turning on your computer.

             For best result, wipe the chip again with rubbing alcohol to remove possible
             residue (such as slow evaporating naphtha ) from carburetor cleaner.

4.  Peel off the release liner (protective film) on the Lasagna Cooler

5.  Mount the Lasagna on the Chipset and apply FIRM pressure on the cooler (not the motor) for longer than 10 seconds to activate the bond strength.

6.  Plug the power to the power supplies, or pass it through with other connectors

7.  That's ALL. 

You must do it correctly the very first time.  Reworking is redundant and may be complicated

 

* Here are some commercial carburetor cleaners good for cleaning up the glue left on the chips;
  (You do not need much, so get the smallest can for this job.)

Auto Zone Carb Cleaner (Toluene)
STP Carb. Cleaner (Xylene, MEK)
STP Throttle Cleaner (Xylene, MEK)
VP Racing Fuel Carb Spray Cleaner (Toluene)
Vavoline (Synpower) Carb/Choke Cleaner (Xylene)
Master Carb & Choke Cleaner, red can,  (Toluene)

Caution: Solvents in carburetor cleaner are flammable, do not spay into the computer.  Let the excess solvent fully evaporated, before installing the card back into the computer.
